olive Magazine’s Easter Taste Tests reveal the best Easter eggs to buy this year

olive Magazine’s annual Easter taste test is back for 2023 and it has revealed the best supermarket Easter chocolate.

The panel of expert judges has tried and tested over 80 products from 10 supermarkets to find the best Easter products to buy this year. From chocolate eggs to simnel cake and lunch centrepieces olive has got everything you need for an effortless Easter.

All the big supermarkets were invited to select one product per category to nominate, and olive’s Easter taste test panel blind tasted almost 50 milk, white, dark, and vegan-friendly chocolate eggs, rating each on taste, texture, and appearance.

The budget supermarkets impressed olive judge’s this year with ASDA, Lidl and Morrisons taking top spots in the chocolate egg categories.

ASDA’s Extra Special Extra Thick Honeycomb, Pretzel & Almond Milk Chocolate Easter Egg (£7) won the judge’s over in the best milk chocolate easter egg category: ‘thick chocolate is stuffed with crunchy honeycomb, pretzel and caramel pieces for a moreish and satisfying bite with a good hint of salt’ and the ASDA Extra Special Free From Dark Chocolate Egg with Vanilla Flavour Truffles (£5) picked up best vegan easter egg with the judge’s commenting on the intensity of the chocolate and the creaminess of the truffles: ‘you wouldn’t know they were vegan’.

Lidl Deluxe Premium Easter Egg (Dark Chocolate & Coffee) (£4.99) scooped best dark chocolate egg: ‘Thin chocolate had a good snap and subtle crunch. The coffee addition makes this a grown-up egg but adds welcome bitterness to balance out the sweetness’.
